BOOK COVER DESIGN - 13 REASONS WHY

ABOUT THE BOOK
Thirteen Reasons Why, by Jay Asher, is a young adult novel that explores the difficult themes of suicide, bullying, and the complexities of teenage life.  The story unfolds through the perspective of Clay Jensen, a high school student who receives a box of cassette tapes from his classmate Hannah Baker, who recently committed suicide.  On the tapes, Hannah details thirteen reasons why she took her own life, each reason tied to a different person or event in her life.  As Clay listens to the tapes, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery and grapples with his own role in Hannah's story.
The novel is a thought-provoking and disturbing look at the pressures teenagers face and the lasting impact of their actions.

CONCEPT NOTE
This design concept prioritizes a subtle yet eye-catching aesthetic, ideal for a young adult audience. The cover features a clean light blue background that allows a dark blue cassette tape to take center stage. This central element is further emphasized by the number "13" prominently displayed in white on the tape itself. To truly capture the essence of the story, the title "Thirteen Reasons Why" will be rendered in a bold red font. The placement of the title is on the number 13 itself written in a serif font, maintaining a clean and bold style to ensure readability while adhering to the overall subtle theme. This cover design achieves a balance between being visually interesting and hinting at the book's deeper themes without resorting to graphic imagery. It's a design a student could proudly carry around, sparking curiosity without being overly dramatic.
